Donating a kidney to the world: an ethical debate

Just replied on a discussion opened on doc2doc: Would you donate a kidney to a stranger?

I am wondering if it is possible outside UK / The Netherlands and if it is, how really willing is a medical équipe to take a kidney from a person who wants to donate it to the world.

I find very useful, and ethically accepted, the databases that allow "crossmatching" between different families that have donor-recipient non compatible kidneys, and this way, can all have one. It's like donating to a loved person, even if indirectly.

On the other hand, I still need to look deeper in the ethical implications of donating a kidney to the world - in a free and anonymous way (you're not payed for it nor you get to know where you're kidney went).
